Alexander Merkler, MD, is assistant professor of neuroscience in the Brain and Mind Research Institute and assistant professor of neurology at Weill Cornell Medical College. One of his research themes concerns risk for ischemic stroke posed by unrecognized myocardial infarctions. He is exploring cardiac risk factors for neuro-ischemic events. Dr. Merkler earned a bachelor of science degree from Brown University and his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine. He joined Weill Cornell in 2011 as a clinical associate in neurology. Since then, he has authored or co-authored 37 peer-reviewed articles, many of which link cancer, sepsis, and diseases of the heart, vascular system, liver, and other organs with stroke.
